The Red Hood is a Jerk by starwind824 The Red Hood is a Jerk by starwind824
I'm not saying Jason Todd would steal Oracle's chair and kick her to the ground, but he totally would because he's a d-bag. Anywho thats me as Countdown era Todd, and my wifey as Oracle. Will I cosplay Nightwing next and cheat on Starfire with her? Probably not.

I just have to throw in my 2 cents in here. Cause yeah this is totally in character for Jason. (Although now I'm curious why so many people are upset about this but not as up in arms about the canon Xavier being thrown down stairs? Gender? No actually I don't want to know.) But I do want to know is where's the follow up with Bab's clearly being planned in this picture retribution? I mean look at that woman's face! She's literally 2 seconds from dragging Jason down and beating him with her sticks and then you know tying him up in a bow to show Batman how you catch wayward Robins. You know actually, I could see this as a really cool scene in a Birds of Prey comic. Chairless does not mean helpless and oh silly Jason isn't it time you learned why you should never have messed with Oracle? I think I have fanfiction to write.

I won't repeat the things the commenters above me have already pointed out, but I still wanted to say that you could have had a better result if you put some more thought on avoiding the offensive potential of the photo and the commentary. It's not a matter of 'omg I can't stand OOC photos' or 'omg this ruins my ship!', cause those are silly things, just disappointment on my side that so much good potential on characters whose relationship is highly overlooked by both fanon and canon was not used well like at all, and that the offensive contents prevents me to enjoy, as a I probably would have done otherwise.

I understand your feelings of wanting to protect your husband and I do believe I didn't want to offend anyone, so do you, and from the previous comment you laid in this thread you are a very brave person and I respect you for this.

That said, I have a problem with the idea that since the world is already filled with fucked up and offensive stuff, we should just shrug and walk away, always.
What he has done is no immensely huge big deal, but it's still offensive, and the 'chill down' attitude is part of the problem that arises from thinking that the big stuff and the little details aren't stemming from the same mentality. They both matter.
I've seen something that settles wrong with me on a site I am regulary browsing, I dropped my feedback stating the reasons it was negative. No big deal, something normal to say. I am not starting a journal campaign against him or coming to piquet your house for this, neither I threatened him of physicall harm as some other jerk that should check her/himself first has probably done in the deleted comments, I simply dropped a comment on dA. Last time I checked that was what dA was for, and that's what happens when you put something on a public space. I honestly don't see all of this 'overeaction' here.

nope no 'overreaction' here. just have hard time expression my self online. I'm saying there bigger fish out there then my husband. i feel fake people are ok to use in jokes . exp:rape not funny when it real. i been almost raped by a freind. but i don't care if comic, movie,t.v or cartoon are getting raped there not real. real and not real is bigger different.

you say what u want. but i can to ^_^. we both ops. but i have right to defended my husband. i have the right thing some thing funny or not. it is wrong to make fun of hand cape but it ok to lol with them. not saying we should turn blind eye to hand cape. if u see someone real who hand cape person being made fun of then do something about. help thme stick up for them help them!!!. but just fiction character just let slide if very one is lol about it. so many joke out there about professor x in wheel chair as will.

I'm ok i know internet is full of op I'm OK with it but will give 2 cents ^_^.

It's okay, I just wanna make it clear that saying criticism is legitimate but then use tone arguments against negative criticism is in the end actually a big contraddiction.

As for real and not real, it definitely makes a difference. I think that you should, always, deal with fictional rendition of problematic contents, both in jokingly and serious way. But this comes from the responsability of getting feedback from the public you are presenting your work with.
Rape is a good example of a sensitive topic that can be handled very good or very bad by a writer/artist/moviemaker and so... You can talka about it, even show it, the way you do it is what would make the difference in how the piece of fiction you have created would affect and move in a meaningfull way the people touched by it, or just gross them out and hurt them. You are using fiction to tap into themes that are a very delicate part of the life of many people. The characters involved are fictional, but the themes in it do not exist in vacuum, they come from real life and get back to real life in the moment they produce a reaction in the people coming into contact with it. You're an okay lady, and a brave person. That's why I wanted you both to understand well what I meant, but now, hell, I've lost track of what I was saying..O.O probably an indication I've babbled enough ^^;;

You're well-spoken and eloquent, I'll give you that but you're only making yourself look like a retard with the kind of BS you're saying about an obvious comic parody.

Grow a sense of humor and put politics into a place that's more constructive than comedy.

You make having honest fun be a sin on the world and that is really low of you.

Frankly, I see no witchunting or demonization anywhere in the argument I, at least, was having with the cosplayer, but I claim the right of commenting on the photo according to the feelings I got from it.

Putting a photo here is launching it in a public space and therefore exposing it to the potential criticism from the people that are, for the good or the bad, affected by the content of the photo, so commenting on it is a perfectly appropriate action.
I actually don't get why you are so defensive, even more than the cosplayers themselves.

But if you do like the characters, I suggest you go here: [link] this is the photog's flicker page for the shoot, and you can enjoy the photos w/o my comments :D Thanks for your input, believe it or not, it's appreciated.

Okay. I really like this cosplay, and I really think it's a cute and funny idea. Because it's in character. Jason's being a docuhe and Oracle's really pissed. It's very in character and I think that it was a really clever shot. I think people are taking this far too seriously and it's a -comic- book. It's all in good fun.

So people need to -calm down- it's not that offensive. It's not like your saying "Go kick the nearest handicapped person" or anything. It's just a fun -comic book reference-

I really like this picture. I love your Oracle <3

dude, negative reactions came for a reason, there are not only negative for the sake of being negative, and whenever you expose something on the internet that has offensive content, you'll get negative reactions.

This doesn't mean starwind824 is an irredimable being that likes to beat women in wheelchairs to the ground - he produced offensive content -and I want to believe him when he said that this wasn't his primary intention- and was called out on this, so things go. Waving criticism away under the label of 'overeaction' fails at being constructive just as much as sending death wishes to authors that kills of your fav characters.

I frankly don't see that much of an "over"-reaction neither here nor on tumblr: both the photo and the description had some explicit problematic contents and those were pointed out. I didn't make it on time to read the deleted comments, though.

Care to explain why you think it isn't it offensive in the context of the characters? Because I really can't see where you are coming from on this specific topic.

Have you ever read Birds of Prey or any Red Hood Content.
If you have then you would realize that despite Oracle's 'handicap' she still kicks some serious butt and if was removed from her wheelchair, she wouldn't need it.

In the context of the characters. Red Hood removing Oracle from her wheel chair isn't a "Well lets go kick people who are disabled from their wheelchair" it's the only way that Oracle -can- be defeated because she such a superior character as it is. In the context of the characters, even removing her from her wheelchair doesn't stop her because she would kick Red Hood out of that chair faster than you could say Birds of Prey.

In context of the characters, this picture has nothing to do with the fact that she's crippled -anyways-. I'm having a really hard time seeing how this -is- offensive, to be honest. Maybe if it was a serious situation, yeah. But these are two well known characters.

Would you bash this if it was in the comic? Probably not because Oracle gets knocked down all the time. But does she stop? No. She finds a way to pull herself up and kick some serious butt.

Read the comics. She does it all the time.

First of all, the phrase 'cripple ass' in the description of the image, even beyond the artist's intention, is straightaway offensive and I wonder how you can honestly say that you don't see how it can be. Second, the fight is shown as playfull 'nananan I got your chair' and not as a serious fight, something that if in one hand is proof of the 'lighthearted' intentions of the cosplayers, on the other hand might have been, for very obvious reason, a very bad pun to someone else.

As for the scenario you are depicting, it's hard to tell what would have happen in the context of *a whole story* coming with dialogues and a sequence of scenes built around Jason getting to Barbara and wanting to stop her, but I probably wouldn't like it anyway. If I was the writer dealing with this plot, I would have made him leave her on the chair but immobilize it in a way that would have prevent her to interact with her computers. She could have crawl her way to kick his ass on her own will and that would have been a powerfull rendition of how Barbara's disability doesn't stop her from being one of the most though heroes around.
(@starwind824: let's be clear, this is a digression on my side on the hypoteticall scenario SheStang proposed, and has nothing to do with the photo itself)

I am really sorry that Jason and Barbara do not have had any real interaction since his resurrection. Last thing I remember was implicitly addressing their connection is his line the Under the Red Hood movie in wich he mentions to Batman 'the friends he has crippled' when counting the crimes of the Joker.
Judging from this and their previous interactions, I can see Jason holding some kind of reverence for Barbara that would never ever do anything aggressive to her along this line, and that's my take on the matter. If it was another villain without an emotional connection a brutal action on his side would have fit his intentions, but Jason has too much personal attachment to her to behave like this, in my opinion. I wish they'd write a story about them in canon, but it hasn't happened so far and I don't trust DC so much lately...

I take it by your name that you're a woman. Let's say someone said something offensive to you that was gender related. Be it a derogatory name, whatever. How would that make you feel? Additionally, how would that make you feel then if you're being told to "calm down" when you are a member of a group that experiences sexism, misogyny, etc.? To say that it's "not offensive" because it doesn't offend you does not invalidate the fact that it still remains offensive.

DC Wise- I've only done Kyle Rayner (GL), Superboy and Red Hood. And again, she's only done Babs so far, and attempting to choose a new character, or get more Birds of Prey.

And no, the person who took the photos was Thedreamersworld on Flickr and DA!

My Kyle stuff hasn't ended up on DA! yet, but can been seen here [link] and while Conner had a few photos up on here, more can be seen here [link]

There has been some Lantern stuff discussed. She really digs the Ami-Con Jade design, and she's generally a fan of the Star Sapphires. But she also reads more Marvel and Image books. Ideally, I'd love to do an Invincible/Atom Eve group, but we'll see.

Aaaah Ami-Con Jade~
And Star Sapphire would be really rad too. Would she do the Cowgirl one or the classic Carol Ferris? [which is really just blonde versus dark hair right lmao?]

I don't read a lot of Marvel [aside from X-Men and maybe a smidge of Spiderman and Avengers] and not really Image at all but I looked it up :D So that would be really cool! [I love red head heroines :] ]

Yeah having mt friend as Guy rocked, although we were a bit bummed we were the only earth lanterns at said con that day. We've been trying to get our friend to do John as well, seeing how I now know a few Hals. As for SS, we discussed it, but we never came to a conculsion. Probably not Carol or Cowgirl. Possibly a OC.

Speaking of redhead's there HAS been some talk of the wifey making Batwoman, she she's a HUGE fan of the character, and knows Fem-Question/Hunteress/Alice cosplayers, so she would have a group right there.

My next confirmed hero costume will be Spider-Man (the black and green Big time costume which I love *_*), although there's been some X-stuff I've been looking at too. I want to do more DC stuffs, but since I've done Conner and Kyle, it's hard to find anyone else, coz they are my faves :D
